Fashion Extravaganza!  That is what the first trollans.ca event will go down in history as.  Held in Calgary, AB, Canada on Saturday March 14, 2009, Tim Rollans (trollans.ca) held his first event FASHION DAY and it quickly turned into a fashion extravaganza.  While it was a beautiful day outside in Calgary after a prolonged cold spell, the true beauty was going on inside the Hyatt Regency Hotel where trollans.ca was holding a fashion shoot that eclipsed all expectations.

"Things just grew from the get go", says Tim Rollans.  "Originally I just wanted to learn some photograph techniques from Mark."  A few months prior Tim had contacted Ottawa area photographer Mark Cooper (www.markshots.com) and asked for some assistance with his photography from Mark.  And that set the seeds of FASHION DAY in motion.  "Once Mark gave me some help, I knew I wanted to get him out here to learn more from him!  We set a date and just decided to do it."

With a date planned, the next decision became location.  "Mark said he wanted somewhere with lots of character."  So Tim scoured the Calgary looking for locations that would suit their needs to have fun day of shooting and learning.  As soon as Tim walked into the Hyatt Regency Hotel, he knew he had the perfect spot.  "We literally scouted Calgary for weeks looking for locations that would suit our needs.  The moment we saw the space in the Hyatt the search ended, it was perfect."

A short period of time after that, the seeds of FASHION DAY in Calgary began to sprout as Tim realized just what was happening.  "You bring an amazing photographer to Calgary, you secure an amazing location and it became apparent we had the opportunity to really make something happen here!  Instead of just putting together a photo shoot, I could put together an event!"  The next step became obvious, put together a team!

Any photographer will tell you, that if you want incredible images, you need to have a make up artist!  Tim picked Lisa Dawson (alluringcolour.webs.com) immediately!  "Lisa was an easy choice, she is young, fresh, up to date, easy to work with and not afraid to take some risks.  She also quickly saw the vision of what I was doing, which helped."

Next on the team, Tim added wardrobe consultant Aleece Coward to the team.  Having someone with Aleece's experience proved critical to insuring that the day would be a success.  "I do not really know about Aleece as a wardrobe consultant because she really became the event coordinator and insured that everything ran smoothly throughout the day.  I would call her more a life saver!"

From there Tim added in designers, Lisa Gunoff of Gunoff Label and Danielle Friesen from Twin Syndrome.  "Danielle and Lisa are two of Calgary's best designers when it comes to putting themselves out there are creating truly unique and inspiring designs!"  And create they did!  Lisa and Danielle put together a unique wardrobe collection that dazzled everyone!  "If we made one mistake throughout the day, it was not including a runway!" declares Tim.

And the final component, was models.  Not entirely true.  Tim had a core group of models already in place to model the designs and participate in the photo shoot, but that did not satisfy Tim.  And even though things did not go entirely as planned, the team that Tim had in place shared the same vision as he did and created a totally new and unique opportunity and experience for many!  "The plan was to shoot some designs for the first part of day and then to open things up a bit and give some people who would not normally get access to something like this the opportunity to participate a bit.  I did not expect make up and wardrobe to do what they did!"

What did make up and wardrobe do?  They kept doing make up and utilizing designs on the extra models!  "The people I had in place on the team are truly the most amazing people you will find anywhere!"  says Tim passionately.  "Their truest gift is that they just do and while they kept doing, Mark, myself and the other photographers just kept shooting!"  And how far did they go?  Even some people who happened upon this and showed and interest, got make-up done and put into a design and were put in front of the camera!  "The models just kept coming!" Tim says with a laugh.  "We had fitness models doing fashion, it was truly incredible!"

And when it was over, exhaustion set in.  The team went from 6:30 AM to 9:30 PM.  "Fashion Day truly was a Fashion Event!  It went way beyond any expectation I had.  I think it went way beyond any expectation any one could have possible had!"

Is Tim planning another Fashion Event?  "This was always only intended to be a first event!" Tim says with a sly smile.  "I imagine others will try to duplicate it, but it we set a high standard here and it is a standard we are going to eclipse big time!"  And how is Tim going to do it?  "I have a pretty simple formula for this, put together the best people you can who will work as a team and then let them do their stuff!"  And when the trollans.ca team gets together and does their stuff, it goes over the top!"

FLAIR 2009 FASHION SHOW

http://characterizedimage.com/BLOG/Entries/2009/7/20_Up_to_date!_Its_a_date!.html

"A week ago I had the chance to be one of the guest to see “Flair 2009 Fashion Show”. Armana Models lit up the runway for a wonderful night of fashion, taste and music over at the Tangerine Supper Club – visit http://armana.squarespace.com for more information. I had promised to write about long dresses for this big come back of my blogs every Monday. (As mentioned on wordpress my site has been under construction for the past weeks). So here are my thoughts, it was actually perfect timing when I sat down at the VIP table sipping my champagne that the dresses showed were similar to ones that I had envisioned writing about. What is it about long dresses that I prefer them than the ones that are mini or above the knees – showed at the Flair ‘09 Show? Let me tell you something about dresses – First of all, if you own one, you should be applauded for being intimate with yourself and embracing your feminine side. I think all women should have at least one dress - yes including the ones who think don’t look great with them on. The length of the dress should depend on the style – how it is made, cut – how it is put together, and women’s body structure – physical attribute. Often times we see long dresses and get discourage for there seem to be endless fabric that make up the dress."
